We carry 11 styles of pointe shoes to fit a wide variety of foot types. Models include Virtisse - Apogee, Verve & Dahlia; Fuzi - Lisse, Verna & Pre Arch; Suffolk - Royal & Silhouette and So Danca - Claudia, Alina & Joy II Elektra Tech. We carry a wide variety of toe pad, ribbon and elastic choices. We are a 1 stop shop for pointe shoes.
Our fitter has 20 years fitting experience as well as 10+ years of dancing en pointe. She is passionate about pointe shoes and helping dancers find their perfect fit.
We recommend appointments be made for later in the afternoon/evening. You want to have been on your feet for a bit that day.
Appointments take approximately 1-2 hours depending on your experience level. We recommend wearing convertible tights. You can purchase them here. Don't forget to trim your toenails!
Pointe shoes, ribbons, elastics & toe pads are all purchased separately. A complete pair of pointe shoes including the ribbons, elastics and toe pads averages about $140. But prices vary. You can reuse the ribbons, elastics and toe pads on future pairs of shoes.
Pointe shoes have to be fit very specifically to your current foot. No room to grow. They do not have a right or left. They form to the foot you put them on. Switch them frequently and allow them to dry out completely after each class and they will last much longer. Average lifespan of a pointe shoe is around 12 dancing hours.
An important part of dancing en pointe is learning how to sew/prepare your shoes. Pointe shoes require sewing your own elastics and ribbons onto the shoes. The dancer must learn to do it themselves. It is the only way to learn what you like and dislike about placement and fitting. Sewing is part of the craft of being a ballet dancer. We carry ballerina sewing kits.
Pointe shoes vary in sizing from make to make and model to model. We do not recommend buying pointe shoes online.

Ballet Slippers
Ballet slippers should not be confused with the flimsy ballet themed house slippers available in many stores today. A ballet slipper is a substantial shoe that supports the foot made of leather or canvas with an elastic binding and elastic strap(s) across the top of the foot. It should fit like a comfy sock with room to spread your toes out.
Ballet slippers do not have a right or left. They form to the foot you put them on. Switch them frequently and allow them to dry out completely after each class and they will last much longer. When preparing your shoes for their first class, put them on, tighten the elastic binding and tie a sturdy knot. Cut the excess elastic off, leaving room to retie the knot as your foot grows. Lightly burn the ends to prevent fraying. When heading into class make sure to have the elastic binding tucked into the shoe. This makes for a clean line and prevents the numerous "Will you tie my shoes?" in the class itself. Your instructor will thank you! Beginner ballet slippers are generally pre sewn and ready to wear but as you advance you may be required to sew the elastics on your ballet slippers yourself. |
